composition family

donut-multi

Two or more donuts side-by-side comparing the composition of different populations.

Compare share-of breakdowns across groups (e.g., audience A vs audience B) by aligning donuts. Stronger than two pies because the central labels make the populations explicit.

When to use

2–3 populations whose composition share you want to compare, each with the same components.

When NOT to use

4+ populations (becomes cluttered), or component sets differ between donuts (use small-multiples bar).

Rhetorical roles

  • distribute
  • compare
