Title has_title

A chart-level title that anchors the takeaway in one phrase.

The cheapest way to tell the reader what the chart is doing. A good title doesn't describe the chart ("Revenue by quarter") — it states the takeaway ("Revenue grew 75% CAGR from $32M to $296M"). The slide title can carry this role; if it does, the chart-level title can be optional.

When critical

When the chart sits without a strong slide-level title carrying the takeaway, OR when the chart is shown out of context (in a report, in an embedded image).

When optional

When the slide title already states the takeaway in concrete terms.

Failures when missing

  • hero-with-no-takeaway
  • reader has to infer the so-what from axis labels alone

Failures when present (badly)

  • descriptive-only title ("Q4 results") — wastes the slot
  • too long — title becomes a paragraph

Critical for families

  • bar
  • time-series
  • distribution
  • specialized
