An oligo is simply a single-stranded DNA fragment – that is, the left or right half of the DNA ladder, and typically only a few rungs long. Twist is nothing more than an oligo manufacturing company, and claims it can make one million oligos per “chip.” Oligos are the raw material and building block for almost everything Twist sells, turning them into two by-products that comprise 80% of its revenue – 1) synthetic genes and 2) NGS panels, referred to as next generation sequencing or target enrichment. The customers are academic labs, start-up biotech companies, and other researchers.",
