Previously, if a DCD organ donor was available in Seattle, TransMedics would send a procurement team available locally at their Seattle hub. If the donor didn't expire, UCSD didn't incur the cost to fly from San Diego to Seattle. Now, the only option they allegedly offer is to fly a TransMedics device and technician *from San Diego to Seattle* even though they have both locally in Seattle. This forces UCSD to eat the $50,000 transport cost to Seattle if the donor doesn't expire and no organ is available – pure extortion to punish TransMedics if it doesn't use their jets: \"if I say I want to use the NOP to get that liver in Seattle, but I don't want to use their transportation company, the only option they give me is traveling from San Diego...that's a round-trip ticket that's...$50,000...rather than just using their team in Seattle to recover the liver and fly it down to me.\"",
