I heard that the Washington Post is working on a report because there is some concern that companies are giving kickbacks to some surgeons or hospitals for using the machine.”\nQ: “I saw that article. But that was talking about OPO’s. Was that talking about TransMedics—they didn’t mention TransMedics.”\nA: “No, no, no. This is something that is not published. I heard that there is a reporter working on TransMedics, specifically. This is not about OPO’s”\nQ: “You heard the Washington Post is working on TransMedics getting kickbacks?”\nA: “Yeah, that’s what I heard. But again, this is just a rumor that I heard from some people, that they are working on a report.”\nQ: “When did you hear this about the “Washington Post?”\nA: “I heard that a few months ago. The Washington Post was reaching out to some transplant surgeons across the country, like a very renowned transplant surgeon; I know that a reporter was reaching out to a surgeon because they were working on a report.” - Transplant surgeon and division chief of the liver program at a world-renowned academic center",

"text": "In Feb 2024, the Washington Post broke the news of a “wide-ranging federal investigation” involving “US attorneys in various parts of the country” – the one for which, we assume, the OPO executive was interrogated. The authorities raided the homes of ten CEO’s of Organ Procurement Organizations, known as OPO’s. A surgeon at a pre-eminent center told us that the Post may now be working on a story about TransMedics, stating that they have been “reaching out to some transplant surgeons across the country, like a very prominent surgeon...I know that a reporter was reaching out to a surgeon because they were working on a report.” We suspect the surgeon spoke with the reporter, given his stature in the field: “I heard that the Washington Post is working on a report because there is some concern that companies are giving kickbacks to some surgeons or hospitals for using the machine”; “this is something that is not published...I heard that there is a reporter working on TransMedics, specifically.”",
