"text": "Would be a “terrible stain on their reputation” to push warm ischemic times past 30 minutes\nQ: “What percentage of uses do you think is over 55? Because that’s technically off-label.\nA: “In all these criteria, age and whatever, I would say at least 25%. It may be even higher than that, but it’s not 50%. Between 25% and 35%.”\nQ: “The bulk of that is driven by patients being more than 55 years old or more than 30 minutes of warm ischemic time.\nA: “Yes, probably age. Probably not warm ischemia time. I can’t imagine people pushing it for much more than 30 minutes...They would be remiss - lowering the threshold of quality to the point where the organs that they procure are damaged or don’t work, which would be a terrible stain on their reputation. So, I don’t think it happens to any great extent, pushing the boundaries outside the age. And the age thing, I think, is it works at 50, it works at 55, it works at 57, it works at 60. But I don’t think they’re going to be going up into the 65, 70-year-olds. The problem is that the national registry, the UNOS database, doesn’t collect information about the perfusion machine or the perfusion time or some of the parameters that we think are very important, like donor warm ischemia time.” - One of the top liver transplant surgeons in the world, based at a leading Midwest academic center",
