"text": "On November 4, 2023, “Diagnostic Outcomes of Concurrent DNA and RNA Sequencing in Individuals Undergoing Hereditary Cancer Testing,” was published in JAMA Oncology. The study was sponsored and funded by Ambry Genetics. All the authors were employees of Ambry Genetics during the conduct of the study, and the company was responsible for funding, study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and the decision to submit the work for publication. We believe this study was used by Ambry Genetics to confirm and justify why they started doing DNA and RNA testing at the same time (concurrent testing) for people being evaluated for hereditary cancer risk. In plain English, the researchers wanted to see if adding RNA sequencing to the usual DNA tests would help find more people who actually have disease-causing genetic changes and make the test results clearer (for example, by reducing the number of “uncertain” results). The study looked at over 43,000 people and concluded that doing both tests together did identify more individuals with clinically important genetic variants and helped clarify many results that would have otherwise been uncertain. The results showed that concurrent testing could catch some genetic changes that DNA testing alone would miss. Because of these findings, we believe Ambry used this study to validate their decision to offer concurrent DNA and RNA testing as a routine part of their hereditary cancer testing process.",
