The LLM analyzes user input, sourcing responses either via a web search or from its knowledge base, before producing a summary with in-line citations.\nGoogle has ruled out a summary boxes to illustrate the potential of Gemini to power up its standard offering.\nBoth services, however, have struggled with reliability issues. Gemini was found to be using satirical Reddit posts as advice sources (e.g. advising users to consume a rock a day), while Perplexity struggles with the same hallucination issues that hit other LLM-powered services.\nOpenAI has started trialling a prototype search function - SearchGPT - which will eventually be integrated into ChatGPT.
