"text": "As more variable renewables come online, and as demand for electricity escalates, bigger challenges emerge for grid operations. Reliance on conventional interconnections between regions for the transfer of electricity may no longer be sufficient to maintain grid stability and security of supply. The need for widespread storage and grid-balancing capabilities becomes more urgent. This is where flexibility and smart-charging solutions, such as V1G, and V2G in particular, could compensate. Flexibility spreads energy demand over time and across locations, reducing stress on the grid. It has scope to delay or mitigate the need for investment in grid reinforcement, which Eurelectric's Grids for Speed study estimates at €67bn per year from 2025 to 2050.",
