      "text": "The future battlespace will be complex, and pilots will have to be aware of their surroundings more quickly and at longer ranges than before. To unlock situational awareness, the Tempest core platform will need a range of active and passive sensors and defensive aids that are multipurpose, dealing with monitoring airspace and both the land and water below. Leonardo in the UK and in Italy are working together on a number of projects with Elettronica in Italy including joint assessment of potential architecture of a common Integrated Sensing and Non-Kinetic Effects (ISANKE) and Integrated Communications System (ICS).21 ISANKE is a spider's web of capabilities that sits across an airframe.22 In contrast to traditional individual federated sensor systems, ISANKE is a fully integrated network of multi-functional radio frequency (RF) and electro-optic (EO) sensing and non-kinetic effect nodes. In addition to ISANKE, the Tempest core platform will be equipped with a fully ICS comprising multiple tactical communications and secure datalink systems. ICS is the network that enables information to be exchanged rapidly across a Tempest formation to harness ISANKE fusion capabilities.23",
