There is currently no cure for dementia, but its social and economic costs are high due to more frequent hospitalizations and the need for intensive long-term care. Dementia does not just affect the very old. About 3% of people between the ages of 65–74 have dementia, 19% between 75 and 84, and nearly half of those over 85 years of age. Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia; up to 5% of Alzheimer's cases are classified as younger-onset, which typically affects people of working age, and even some as young as 30.
