The Dutch company;; which was founded in 2015;; enables users on PC;; mobile;; and Xbox to share gameplay clips on social platforms and messaging apps like Twitter;; Facebook;; and WhatsApp.  Gamers don't need to hit a record button when they want to film but;; when the 'Medal button' is pressed;; the tool captures the previous 15 or 30 seconds of gaming. In the Medal app;; videos can then be edited and shared.  \"While more and more of our social interactions move to digital worlds;; the way we capture these moments hasn't yet evolved;;\" Medal.tv cofounder and CEO Pim de Witte told Insider.  \"We're connecting people over shared gaming experiences and allowing them to create memories;; whether physically together or apart.\"  De Witte said he played Rocket League;; a vehicle-based soccer game;; with his family in Europe and that his only memories of his nephews during the pandemic were the goals they scored together online. He said Medal's role in enabling this had been \"incredibly meaningful\" for him.  The company also views the metaverse as a sizable opportunity. The metaverse may be a $783.3 billion market by 2024;; compared with $478.7 billion in 2020 – a compound annual growth rate of 13.1%;; according to Bloomberg.   Medal expects the range of clips captured and shared through its platform to continue on an upward trajectory in line with a shift to the metaverse – \"whether that's a place or a point in time at which someone starts placing value in digital identity.\"  While the company is built around video;; the cofounder claimed this was simply a means to an end in that it was \"a lower intensity way for people to interact.\" For this reason;; he is not pinning Medal against Twitch;; YouTube;; or TikTok.  \"I do not consider them competitive - more complementary;;\" de Witte said. He argued its biggest competitors are in-game capture solutions.   The Series C round brings Medal.tv's total raised to $72 million;; including a previously unannounced $15 million Series B from Makers Fund;; Horizon Ventures;; Dune Ventures;; and others.   The latest round was led by OMERS Ventures and will be used to build out the startup's team and platform. Medal is expected to launch a new feature called Sessions;; which lets users stream;; edit;; and share videos in real-time. This follows the acquisitions of livestream platform Rawa.tv;; gameplay recording company GifYourGame;; and editing tool Fuze.tv.   In the first quarter of 2022;; Medal.tv will also release a subscription tier.
